Ever listened to “Hungry” Conversations? You know what I’m talking about… everyone in the car is hungry but no one can agree on where to go, so you just keep driving around until everyone gives in. You eventually eat but it’s not what anyone really wanted. I’ve had a few of those:)
2 Kings 6:25 gives us us one of those those desperate stories that can apply to all of our lives. The bibles says, “There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter of a cab of seed pods for five shekels.” People were so hungry that they were eating dove dung and donkey heads….GROSS! I don’t ever want to go to that restaurant. You see, when we are truly hungry, we will eat anything.
The same goes for our spiritual lives as well. The more we neglect feeding our spirit, the more we spiritually starve ourselves. When we do this, we don’t realize how far we are getting away from the Lord and then we find ourselves spiritually eating something that we wouldn’t normally eat and when that happens you can guarantee that sin is creeping right around the corner ready to pounce.
This is where discipline comes in. If we would dedicate ourselves to feeding our spirit just as much as we feed our bodies, what do you think would happen? We would be healthy and strong, ready to fight off anything that isn’t healthy!
So what am I saying? I’m say this…any chance you could press in a bit more and make your relationship with the Lord a priority?! How can this be done?
